Louisiana Bill Would Stiffen Penalties For Dog Owners In Death Cases

The State of Louisiana is considering stiffer penalties for dog owners whose dogs kill human beings. House Bill 155 would expand the definition of negligent injuring and homicide. A dog owner could be convicted under the proposed law if he was criminally negligent in confining or restraining his dog, and the dog killed a person.

The maximum penalty would be a $5,000 fine and 5 years in prison. The new law would not apply to police dogs and guide dogs. To read the article, click here.
